On Saturday My children and I were victims...

Not real ones though, thank goodness. We were made up victims for an exercise. CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) trainees need to do a mock disaster to prove their skills they had learn. Since I became a CERT member back in October and since DH was a trainee this time, it was natural for us to volunteer. I had a fake head injury and only repeated things then went unconscious. It was fun and interesting. It was a bit like Halloween in January as well. Some people had fake bones sticking out. Some had fake glass sticking out and some were impaled. But us four were the worse because we all had head injuries. I even got to be tied to a spine board.
So when are you going to join CERT?

Time to look for seeds.

I don't know about you but I have been inundated with seed and plant catalogs. Which obviously signifies that it is time to start looking into our gardens again.

I've got some bulbs that I need to get into the ground still. (blush) I need to schedule that.

So look at your Zone and figure out when your last frost date is HERE.

My last frost date is April 15th. So I have several times that I need to start planting.
I've just looked through my seeds from last year. I had so many leftover that I stored them in the freezer.

First section, tomatoes and peppers, are started indoors 6 weeks before last frost. So I will be doing this the first week in March.

Second section, cole crops (broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce). Some are before last frost and some are the day after last frost. Check labels to make sure.

Third section, summer crops (summer squashes, melons, pumpkins), 2 weeks after last frost. So for me, in the beginning of May.

So if you have seeds that need started 6+ weeks before last frost, now is the time to find them and order them.

So have you planned your garden yet?

A Picture for my Prudent Homemaker.

Sorry it is not of the hive yet. Trust me when I say that thing has a ton of work. But my son found the hat and decided it was in fashion, all day. :D

Dirt Baths

We let the chickens out on a wonderful Saturday while we cleaned their coop. And they headed straight for the Dirt! Nothing better to clean with than DIRT?! Gotto love chickens! :D
